Abstract:
A review on self-assembly of org. films on solid substrates (esp., alkanethiols on Au) illustrated with some of the author's recent results on mol. orientation and order in alkanethiol films, the kinetics of adsorption and ordering, and the topog. changes of the Au substrate caused by thiol adsorption. While previous studies on self- assembled monolayers have relied mainly on traditional surface anal. methods and IR spectroscopy (FTIRAS), the author used second harmonic generation (SHG)and NEXAFS measurements and STM in his studies.
